Steven Linville focuses his work on the creation of arts events, whether as a performer, director, producer, or in other capacities. He is dedicated to developing programming that supports diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, as well as connecting with audiences and communities through educational outreach and project creation.
He has performed in a variety of roles, including Don Basilio (Le Nozze di Figaro), Gherardo (Gianni Schicchi), Pluto (Orpheus in the Underworld), Monostatos (The Magic Flute), Ivan (Die Fledermaus), Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec in the world premiere of Bernard Rands' opera Vincent, Mayor Upfold in Albert Herring, and the tenor role in the Midwest premiere of Charon. He has performed in musicals such as Guys and Dolls (Rusty Charlie), Hello, Dolly! (Rudy), You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown! (Charlie Brown), The Music Man (Barbershop Quartet - First Tenor), Godspell (John the Baptist/Judas), Cinderella (Herald), Cabaret (Quartet; Nazi), The New Yorkers (Mr. Wentworth), The Mystery of Edwin Drood (Bazzard), Sweeney Todd (Pirelli), The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (Barfée), and Assassins (The Proprietor). As a concert soloist he has performed works including Mozart’s Requiem, Handel’s Messiah, Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass, and selections from various opera and operettas. Additionally, he has performed Shakespearean works such as Twelfth Night (Sir Toby Belch) and The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged).
Steven also serves as a director, musical director, and vocal coach, working on productions such as Bat Boy: The Musical, Our Town, Venus, Urinetown: The Musical, The Who’s: Tommy, Children of Eden, Into the Woods, Parade, Spamalot, Company, Sister Act, Young Frankenstein, and A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder.
Previously a member of the Indianapolis Opera Chorus, he has served as Executive Producer for Intimate Opera of Indianapolis and on the board of Buck Creek Players. He serves as Director of Productions at the DePauw University, Director of Music at Plainfield United Methodist Church, and maintains a private voice and acting studio.
Steven graduated cum laude from DePauw University with a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance in 2006, and received his Master of Music in Vocal Performance from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music in 2012. Steven's vocal training includes work with Karri York, Stanley Irwin, Caroline B. Smith, and Brian Horne.
